inspiration for an ibanez
« on: August 12, 2015, 09:58:33 PM »
It seems i need to admit that i am an ibanez rg550 too many.
I don't want to sell it but i do want to mod it.
So here i am asking you guys what hsh combination would you put in and why?
Are you one of those folks who believes there is the ultimate combo or are you always tailoring to tastes?
Are you a vintage, classic or modern in your tastes?

I'm very interested in what you have to say.

Basswood, maple, rosewood.
Floyd rose.
Black with a gold pickguard
D'addario 10's

I've a very early RG550 and have a Holydiver bridge, '63 Veneer Board mid coil and Emerald neck loaded in it. Serious all round rock machine that'll handle anything from all out shred to glassy clean tones.

Aw man! Thanks Tim!
I love my holy diver in my other rg. It sits great with an irish tour and vhii.
Only heard great things about the emerald neck but the 63 veneers came as complete sucker punch sir.

Far be it from me to disagree with Tim but this is about personal preferences. The Holydiver bridge and Emerald neck would have been my choices too, with maybe a Miracle Man as an alternative for the bridge, however, for the middle pickup I'd go a different route. I always found that I had the middle single coil set a bit lower so I always preferred a fairly hot single coil. I'd go with a Trilogy Suite bridge model because it's hot enough to match well with the others, it's modern enough to sit well with the others and it's hot enough not to get lost as well as retaining a distinctly single coil feel.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

So many choices, from a VHII set to the Juggset or even Warpig set.

Chunky low end and a tame top end that would balance with the Ibanez bolt on neck and Floyd would be the Warpig for something toatlly different.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Thanks for the responses guys.
I am comitted to the trilogy suit middle for my miracle man cold sweat combo on Ben's recommendation, though i am still a sucker for a slowhand because its still hot but still a little vintage/classic rock flavour.
I forgot completely about the cobra. Because of my need to avoid dupicating pickups i already own and have aesthetic as important as sound how would a black hawk set pair up with a cobra? And how would they sound in an rg?

Does any one know which he used?
