anyone ever try a mix of screw and hex poles?

More specifically on pickups like the war pig or aftermath with two rows of adjustable poles. Would it be possible to do a row of each type?  One hex and one flat head screw?

Now you are just being silly

The difference between screws and hex bolts is subtle at most.  Raising or lowering them has more effect than what type, and even then the height changes are a subtle change.

Live you certainly wouldn't pick any difference

In the studio you *might* pick the difference

At home practicing you might imagine all kinds of differences, but sometimes it's the weather, or some other cr@p switched on that is affecting the amp, or whatever

I really want to try this mostly for aesthetics.  Imagine a set of brushed nickel Aftermaths with black hex screws only in the outer coils of the set.  AWESOME!!

I know that subject has been mentioned here million times, but couldn`t find satisfying answer yet (even after going through BKP tutorial video).

How in reality does the cover affect the overall sound? Yes, open coils tend to sound a bit sharper and brighter but how subtle/apparent is it in reality?

Are there any pups from BKP range that sounds better with or without covers?

But is that difference really subtle that you can nearly shouldn`t bother? I mean in practice.

I suspect it's minor.

I have Warpigs with allen bolts, but I can't say how they would compare to a set with screws as I've only been able to play my set.

Careful Agent Orange, I think Lucas is not talking about pole pieces but about covers. Those do make more difference than the pieces.

It is hard to say if any PU sounds better, it really is a matter of preference and guitar / amp. Of course something like a WP or Crawler is a bit more on the danger side when it comes to being covered, where as the RY and EMerald bridge handle it much easier. Open coil really provides more cut and treble, but the bit of rolloff you get from the cover is very nice and musical and sublte enough to be used to great effect (which is why it is more common on the neck than the bridge).
YouŽll have to look at the guitar, amp and what you want really.

Oh yeah, I'm getting confused.

Again though I've got an open set of Warpigs, and covered Cold Sweats, a covered A-Bomb, and a P-90.  Like I said regarding pole pieces comparing covered and non-covered is like comparing apples and oranges unless you have them on the same type of pickup in the same guitar.  All you can really go by is the general principles stated in the BKP video on the subject, where they do demo covered and uncovered versions of the same set in the same guitar.

I've emailed BKP about the possibility of a bolt/ screw or slug combo but has anyone done this ever?
