I see the Impulse Humbucker is out :)
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:30:47 PM »
Just came across this, and I haven't seen a thread yet discussing it on the page. So thought I'd start one. I do apologise if there's already one. But here you go:

BKPs: ESP Eclipse I CTM FT w/Riff Raff bridge/Mule neck - ESP Eclipse I CTM w/Rebel Yells - LTD EC-1000 FT w/Aftermaths - Music Man JPIX w/Juggernauts

The neck pickup of that set could be interesting. Question to the BKP team: how tight is it in the low end - tighter than Black Dog, Holydiver or VHII necks?

Thanks, Stephan

Hey guys, please see said thread - https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=33314.0

In regards to tightness, Both pickups are very tight, definitely faster tracking in the low end than the ones mentioned but still loose enough to blossom.

I can't honestly say they appeal to me in the slightest but to each their own and choice is always good.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

I don't think the samples give much of an idea of whether this pickup would be useful for me.  I'd like to hear it play heavy distorted chords in low tuning, also some thrashy stuff and some metal lead work.  The Clean BMN sample is really nice, reminds me of Ahab. The chugs one is just a style I can't stand and it is difficult to work out from it how it might translate into what I do.  The low gain OD clip has way too much reverb, which muddies the whole thing up.  The bridge breakup one is promising but still I feel like I would need to hear more diverse samples to have an idea.

One thing I do hate about this pickup is the name.  It's a good thing that it's not written on the actual pickup.  Reminds me of a cheap body spray for women that they sell here.

Well I called it the impulse set because it's one of our song titles. Didn't make that connection!

I do intend to do some more sample clips shortly so I'll keep the above in mind.

In the meantime, this live session was recorded with the final prototypes of the impulse H/S set a while back, my guitar is on the right. They've since taken down the entire session as it was quite a while ago now but there's still clips.
