PU for a Jackosn KV2
« on: July 04, 2016, 04:50:56 PM »
Hi there
I want to load my Jacskon KV2 (Alder body, quartersawn eastern hard rock maple neck-thru-body, compound-radius ebony fingerboard) with BKP.

I already hav a Jackson SL1 is loaded with a Miracle Mannd a Jackson SL2H is loaded with a C-Bomb in the bridge and a Cold Sweat in the neck

I play mostly heavy, thrash and deathmetal.
I tune in E, C og B (maybe this one willl mostly be E or maybe C)

I like my Pu's to have a good punch, a nice bass without gettibg to flobby and a great clear tone.

What can you recommend for my type of guitare?

Well, as far as woods and construction are concerned, all three guitars are essentially the same so the Miracle Man is your best option, however, as you already have one of them and the Holydiver doesn't sound like it will be your thing, I'll suggest two alternatives. If this guitar will be tuned to E most of the time, I would suggest a Warpig and if it will spend most of its life in C, perhaps a Juggernaut.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Thanks for you reply. How is Juggernaut in E? Would like a killer-PU ther will work in both tunning. Maybe anothrr MM combined with another cold sweat is the deal?

The reason I split them is because while the Warpig may really appeal to you, it has so much bass and is so thick sounding that I can't imagine it being too happy going as far down as C. In comparison, the Juggernaut is both tighter and brighter so should be more flexible about the tuning being used. I still feel that the Miracle Man is the ideal pickup for a maple neck-thru Metal-style guitar as the scoop in the pickup naturally offsets the mids that are present in the guitar. The Cold Sweat can work for the same reason but would be too bright in the bridge for what you seem to be after. The Juggernaut has more mids but it also has a strong bottom end so I suspect you'll like it. Why not go for a Juggernaut set as loads of people seem to love the Juggernaut neck, which doesn't seem to be too far removed from the Cold Sweat neck. As another alternative, what about a Miracle Man bridge and Aftermath neck? There's equally nothing to stop you being even more imaginative. Just because BKP say something is a neck or bridge pickup doesn't mean that's how you have to use it. You could just as easily use a Miracle Man in the bridge and then put one of the other bridge pickups in the neck.

There are a lot of options available to you but if it were me, I wouldn't go with a Miracle Man, simply because you already have one in what is essentially the same guitar in a different shape. I think you'd like the Juggernaut set.

So followring posibilities is in the game:

A set of Juggernaut
Or
Miracle man in the bridge and a cold sweat or a Aftermath in the brigde

The MM is the best solution but the Juggernaut will also be good... And the Juggernaut in the brigdge is a better choise than the Coldsweet - Juggernaut is a perfect set, so i should not split it up?

I have a Warpig set in my SG Special, at that is tuned to C Standard

I don't have any problems because it is a bright guitar to start with

Given  your style though you might want to consider the ceramic option for the bridge pickup
BLACK HAWKS
IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS
MIRACLE MAN
TRUE GRIT

There was a clip I stumbled across a few years ago of a guy with a very similar guitar to yours loaded with an alnico Warpig and his version of the song 'Cold Sweat' was fantastic. I can't find it now unfortunately but it was a HUGE sound, though it was in standard tuning.
