Neck pup Pair for Jugg Bridge
« on: September 23, 2016, 03:10:21 AM »
Mahogany body / Maple top and Neck / Rosewood Board.  Set-up in Drop C

Bought a set of Juggernaut for this, really enjoy the width and fullness of the bridge pup, very thick rhythms.  Not super hype for the neck, though.  It's perfectly fine / serviceable, but a little colorless.  Looking for something more distinct / with more character.  I will say that I really dig my VHII and Rebell Yell necks if that helps at all.

Let me know what you all think.  Thanks in advance

There are so many great neck pup options, so you gotta be a little more specific
You want something more vintage sounding, medium hot, maybe hotter than the juggerneck?

I thought the VHII and RY necks were quite different.  Isn't the VHII darker than the RY?

Personally I prefer the brighter ones like the Holy Diver, Nailbomb, and Impulse necks

You're right, the Rebel and VHII are quite different, what I meant was I enjoy both (for different reasons of course) so perhaps that info could help point us at something else. Sorry, should've been clearer about that.

I've been looking at the Holy Diver, would definitely want something brighter like that, something to really cut in the mix.  How would you say its voiced / what would you compare it to?

I was thinking of something medium hot, responsive to picking strength, brighter and throatier in voice.  Double points if it splits well too ( I didnt think the Jugg Neck split all that well, tbh)

Sounds like an emerald
A little hotter than the vhII, but a bit more balanced in the mids
But If you want something brighter and more aggressive you better try a painkiller or nailbomb

The Holy Diver or Impulse would be more 'fluid' than the Nailbomb neck.  The NB is good for hammer-ons etc.

Have a look at this video on the Impulse set, he uses the neck a bit
