Could be basswood actually, its either basswood or alder from what I can tell from looking at the grain pics on warmoth. Based on this.. which would you guys recommend from the BK range now we know its probably one or the other? I might not even get a BK for some time, I'm thinkin of getting something cheap off ebay, then if I play the strat a lot, upgrade, because the LP has always been my main guitar, I hardly touched the strat after getting the LP.

I have an alder guitar with a transluscent finish and it looks nothing like the wood on your guitar. I suppose your guitar could still be alder, but it doesn't look like mine does, that's for sure.

As for pickups, your guess is as good as mine. ;)

I've not had the chance to try it at live/ rehearsal volumes yet but I haven't heard anything so far that sounds anything like Santana. I can get a pretty good early Led Zep tone with the volume rolled back to about 7 - 8 and I keep getting an irresistable urge to play classic Bowie tracks (Ziggy Stardust/ Rebel Rebel etc). Basically it does what I bought it for - to complement my Apaches with a classic hot humbucker tone.

Interesting you say that, I've not found the VHII to be bright in my hard ash strat, and the bridge one is even angled for more bite. Maybe it's because it has an ebony fretboard instead of maple, or graphite saddles? The bridge pickup does sound a bit ice pickey when tapped though, as it's the outer coil.

I installed the bridge VHII in my cheap squier starter guitar (w/ swimming pool route) until my custom one was finished, and it did seem a bit thin. I think it was mostly the plywood body, not the route, that made it that way.

I dont think I'll be going for a VHII in this strat then.. Abraxas seems best bet so far I reckon. Also thought about a RY, or Emerald, as hardly anyone has Emeralds it seems, I know these are meant for LPs but it could be good? Anyway I probably wont be able to afford BK's for ages for this strat which is a bit depressing, I'll have to put up with SD or Dimarzio tone for some time :lol:
