MM bridge alternative, any thoughts? CS bridge?
« on: March 22, 2017, 11:21:55 PM »
Hi, at the beginning I want to say that I absolutely LOVE my Miracle Man bridge. I dont want to replace it but looking for something similar for another guitar. As recently started playing a bit heavier music with my band and still have another guitar looking for pickups, I need some help.

my 3rd guitar is:  Alder, maple top chambered HH Telecaster with rosewood neck and rosewood board (it`s Warmoth project so didn`t assemble that yet, but I presume it`s going to be balanced sounding instrument- brighter body with warmer neck)

I play everything between hard heavy rock and metal, the softest would be G`nR, heaviest Metallica and Trivium. Nothing extreme and nothing too brutal. Just some 'medium' metal not too soft, not too extreme either.
Also I`m mainly lead guitar player but play rhythm as well. LEADS are my priority, fluid and screaming without sounding sharp and shrill with sharp top end.

As I said I cannot decide on bridge pickup, I also play leads mostly on BRIDGE as well, so it has to be great on leads (I don`t like leads on my Ceramic Nailbomb at all, too hairy, sharp, blurry and messy). I want something towards Miracle Man,

Obvious choice would be HOLYDIVER (although a5) , but I know it`s not for me, too polite, too smooth on rhythm, browsing YouTube I never heard Holydiver samples that I liked. So...

Holydiver - NO... (although I like it`s leads, but too polite on rhythm)
Black Hawks - too compressed and too saturated and too extreme metal for my taste (even Alnico version)
Warpigs - too much and too 'brutal', same as with BH... even with alnico version I would be worried about leads
Painkiller - not my taste either

What would be your recommendation then? I need some roar/throaty sounding quite aggressive hard rock/metal pickup which is not too extreme and shrill and brittle and not too saturated with great fluid leads (priority) I`m a lead player, more towards Miracle Man? but apart from mentioned above?

I know that I didn`t leave much choice, but after spending few days listening samples ect, I`m totally lost. Also I play through Orange Dual Terror amp which is not super hi gain so low output pickup would not keep up I think.

I`m really interested in Cold Sweat bridge, but have few questions:
How bright is it?
How does it cope with leads, shred, melodic mellow solos?
It rather invented for dark massive guitars like LPs?
Does it get brittle and too bright in neutral sounding instruments?

I also consider getting another Miracle Man but first want to try alternatives, something different. If not, I`ll get another MM no problem.

thanks

I wouldn't say the alnico pig is 'too brutal'
it's a lot like a holy diver, but more even voiced and grainy sounding
should go well with the woods and bolt-on neck

the cold sweat has a sharper lead and rhythm tones than the miracle man
it's not treblier than the miracle man, but it is brighter and leaner sounding
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I have all three of the pickups mentioned by ericsabbath and would agree with his assessment, at least when installed in Gibson SGs.
BLACK HAWKS
IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS
MIRACLE MAN
TRUE GRIT

Many thanks
I`m being really interested in CS bridge. Trying to get more info.

How bright is it? I`ve read that sometimes people find it too harsh and brittle in some guitars. Does in have enough bottom end for neutral sounding instrument?
Would CS bridge be a good lead pickup?
