Tried a Vox AC10 1x10 combo

I gave it a good test in a music store using a strat.

If you're looking for a simple Vox toned amp, carryable and usable unmiced for pub gigs, this is definitely it.

Controls were gain, bass, treble, reverb and master. All of them give a very useful range of adjustment. You'd be fine with single coils or humbuckers. I wasn't 100% sure if the reverb was a real spring or a digital version - it sounded to me like a digital version, but a good one.

The tone was quite bright overall, but it was easily tamed with the treble control.

It definitely sounds like Vox, no question. If I had one I'd seriously consider upgrading the speaker to remove some harshness and increase volume, but the stock one is fine for the beginning.

I was pretty impressed I have to say, though I very rarely use a Vox tone so I won't be buying one myself.

you wouldn't use the meat knife on crusty bread but, equally, the serrated knife and straight edge knife aren't going to go through raw meat as quickly
