Cold Sweat vs Ceramic Nailbomb
« on: June 18, 2017, 02:44:28 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a bridge pickup that is tight and gets agressive, yet retains versatility. I'm putting it in mayones duvell (mahogony body, maple neck and top, bolt on).

I'm used to aftermath, which is cool for high gain, but I want something that also does mid gain tones well. I like the attack of ceramic pickups, so keep that in mind.

So, something tight, able to do lightly driven stuff well and has a ceramic magnet.

How scooped is cold sweat really? Which one sound fatter? Which one is more dynamic?

I have both but...
I`ll be able to answer you question next weekend as my Cold Sweat will be getting installed into Warmoth Telecaster.

In my opinion Ceramic Nailbomb is not typical 'metal' pickup. I actually find it shining more for mid gain, hard rock type of thing. It`s great rhythm pickup as long as you dont play 'technical' complex riffs, it also has good cleans for ceramic pickup.
if you play solos and that`s a important factor, Cbomb is not that great in that manner.

From my experience I would say that Cbomb is not for you then.
Lets put it this way, I play in hard rock/metal band. During every show I use mainly the guitar with Miracle Man for 3/4 of the set, I switch to Cbomb equipped guitar only for more rock/hard rock influenced songs.
Leads are not so great on CBomb
plus if you want to tune down Cbomb is not great either from my experience

I`ll be able to say more about Cold Sweat in few days, my new set arrived couple of days ago, but will get them put into guitar next weekend.

Thanks! YOu're a lot of help - C-bomb is not for me. Hope Cold Sweat works for you. Maybe mahogony compensates for the lack of midrange?

I'm in drop C most of the time.

If you play in drop C I definitely would not recommend Cbomb. Couple of years back I was playing in Drop C# while having only one guitar with CBomb and in lower tunings in my opinion CBomb could not 'keep up', wasn't really present and was getting a bit 'muddy' and blurry if it makes sense. And if you play technical metal with complex riffing where precision and presence is needed, CBomb is not for you. Its only based on my own experience, with different amp/set up it might work. I play through Orange Dual Terror

Don't get me wrong it's great rhythm pickup with really nice cleans but it has it's limitations as well.
