I'm looking for some direction on how to go about understanding the difference between a vintage hot alnico pup and a more modern ceramic. Not the construction though, I want to understand how the signal differs. For example if I take a signal from an alnico pup and add eq and level it still will not sound the same. I'm assuming there is some compression of some freq's also occurring. I know all pups are different and any info would be a generalization but can anyone comment or point me in the right direction? The purpose is to see how close I can get using a multi band compressor along with maybe boost and eq or tonematch in an axe fx so I don't have to change guitars for more modern songs.
