pick up cover.

I am new here and..well I couldnt find anything on this topic so..

I read it here somewhere(cant remember) that the pickup cover changes the sound.. how does it change?

plus, I have a hamer slammer centuara and I am really not happy with the pickups. I want a good sustain at the neck as well as a high output on the bridge. It should be good in for a clen tone too.

I have read the reviews here but I wanted some advice from u guys.
