Does anyone have a thorough evaluation of these you'd like to share?

I have a PRS McCarty Rosewood and am looking at putting Seymour Duncan Phat Cats in it as those are the best pickups I've ever owned for my style.  However, I am open to a similar pickup, so I'm interested in how the MQ's compare with the Phat Cats.

Mississippi Queens blow Phat Cats away - I've compared both and the MQ win in terms of tonal range and P90 grunt.  Phat Cats are 'like a P90' and to be honest are good pups but MQs are a P90 under a humbucker sized cover.  Also MQs are, like all BKPs compared to SDs, just more alive.

If you get an Alnico IV neck and an Alnico V bridge you have an awesome tonal range that can do pretty much everything.

Elliot, the Phat Cat is also a true P90, that's what is under the cover. It's wound a little bit hot, though, and has Alnico II magnets, which isn't a good combination IMO, if you want a lot of clarity and articulation.

Cheers for the correction Peterku - I thought PC's were wannabes rather than real P90s.  Still having played both I prefer BKPs by a factor of 10.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.  Something with the power (or close to it) of a humbucker, but the clarity only single-coils can provide.  Thanks for the info. 8)

The McCarty pickups are OK, but are somewhat lacking that clarity and definition I desire (as do most humbuckers).  Plus, I play through a THD BiValve amp, which really accentuates what you put into it...so a muddy tone from a humbucker or sloppy playing results in poor tone, but a pickup with some clarity and good playing results in a phenomenal tone!

I have nothing to add to that.
