New Silo Rabea Massaad
« on: November 22, 2019, 11:55:20 AM »
hi, I contacted Tim Mills to ask for advice on which pick up to install on my Prs.  He strongly recommended the new Silo Rabea Massaad signature.  has anyone got to try it or is it too early?

I asked him this question: I bought a Prs Mark Holcomb signature with an SD Omega at the bridge ... I know that he has too high and distorted highs, not defined as Bare knuckles.  The guitar has a mahogany body, a maple top, a maple neck, an ebony fretboard.  I would be torn between the A-bomb, the Ragnarok or an Aftermath ... I don't like acid or fuzzy distortions but rocky and guttural distortions with always intelligible distortions ... I use a Mesa mark v 25 with gain at 10 o'clock

Interesting... I'm considering something new for my 8 string multiscale. atm I'm leaning towards the Juggs because I know and like them, but I'd like to try Rags or Silo (being two very different options, I know). I'm scared the Rags are too much (growing tired of Ceramic pups lately) and the Silo too polite for extreme metal tone. Wary because a fanned fret pup is something I don't want to jeopardize in case I fail in my choice, too expensive a mistake. Seems like the Juggs are a safe bet.

I made the same considerations as you on the Rags (too bad) and on the Silo (will it be quite incisive, clear and defined like the other bare knuckles?) and that's why I haven't ordered it yet.  I have often read around that the Juggs are "muddy" unclear, but do you find them useful ?

Same as me, I still have a few months to decide, but having heard the Rags are louder made me stand back. My amp is loud as hell and the music I play very aggresive, so I don't need a (apparently) weapon of mass destruction. I'm starting to hate ceramics, so both factors, magnet and output are what I take more seriously in my choices. Juggernauts are a good compromise between both Ceramic and Alnico, they are in the middle ground, lowest output among the others I've tried as the Cbomb or Cpig. I hope to know about the Silo eventually and maybe makes me change my decision, but as I said, the Juggs are still my safest bet.

I'm also considering getting some Guitarmory and give them a chance. All their catalogue is lower in output than BKP's. We'll see

The Juggs are warm, phat sounding pickups, designed specifically to work in a bright S type guitar.

So, they would sound muddy and unclear in a warm, dark sounding guitar.  (read, Muddy guitars)
Mud can be caused by construction or, more commonly, low quality hardware.

So, juggs are useful in bright and aggressive sounding guitars that have a lot of attack.  I had two guitars with juggs where I swithed the bridge for high end hardware.  They sounded good but with the better bridges, they sounded awesome because the combination of hardware and pickup was optimized.

Has anyone tried these yet? I'm starting to consider switching my Juggs set for these. Believe it or not the Juggernaut bridge is still too bright for that guitar.
