Death metal pickup for SG

Hi everyone!
Looking for heavy sounding pickup for my SG Special '86 which has mahogany body and maple neck and sounds really bright.
Previous owner put a Duncan SH6 into it, and i've found it too thin and unpleasantly harsh in the high mids even with 300K volume pot. I tried Invader with 500K, the tone became much beefier, but there's not enough clarity in c# Standard on fast palm muted riffs.
I've seen that many people recommend a ceramic Warpig for my purposes, but I'm a little worried won't it sound too modern for oldschool death metal stuff?

If you find that your SG is really bright you might want to consider the alnico version of the Warpig.

I have one in a 2007 SG Special (with the worn yellow finish) and it is the best pickup I have tried in there.  I had the 490T originally, which didn't have enough balls for heavy stuff, and I have had the Warpig in there since then besides testing out the following pickups in there before fitting them to my Schecters.

Rated from good to bad:

Alnico Black Hawk
Ceramic Black Hawk (too bright in the highs)
Impulse (lacking low end)

In all cases it was tuned to C standard.  The alnico Warpig was better than the best of these - the A-Hawk - so I was happy to put it back in.

I have a Miracle Man in my SG Standard and that sounds great, but I have the 300K pots in that.  The yellow SG with the Warpigs has 500K pots

I have also used an alnico Nailbomb (too aggressive in the mids) and a Cold Sweat (a lot better than the NB but lacking a bit of low end for that guitar).

The Silo is an underwound alnico Warpig but you are probably better off with the Warpig.

You can get some pretty juicy tones out of the alnico Warpig.  Get it in 53mm and swap out your bridge for a wider spaced TOM like the Gotoh 510B if you want more sustain and to loose more top end (it has brass saddles).  The holes in the body would need to be drilled larger though probably as they use the big metric size posts. I have one in a Schecter C-1 Blackjack ATX and it is sold as a rock.  That guitar has the Impulse set and is tuned to Ab standard (with the same string gauges as my friend Justin from Mournful Congregation, 16-64).  I used to have alnico Black Hawk in there but the 510B warmed the guitar up a bit too much and took away the bite (even in C standard) so I fitted the Impulse set.

The ceramic version of the Warpig might work okay, but be prepared to change the bridge saddles or something if it is too bright.  The Graph Tech String Saver saddles can also take off a bit of high end

I would also recommend the Stockholm P-90 if you can deal with a bit of hum. I have one in my SG Junior and it is fantastic.  Nice palm mutes too (it has the Graph Tech NW-2 wraptail).
