Right - I hope this works. Here's my Epi SG prior to Riff Raffs arriving this week. Rig is:

Epi '65 reissue SG (completely rewired to Gibson spec, original pickups) => Laney GH50L at 16ohms => Marshall JTMC212 2x12 cab with Vintage 30s => Sony mic => Sony Recording Walkman

What do you think? And how awesome will it be with Riff Raffs?

Considering it was recorded with a built-in mic on a walkman the tone is pretty good, it's got that AC/DC midrange crunch happening.

I've only had the Warpig & Miracle Man so I can't really coment on the Riff Raffs but judging by the general BKP quality I'd say you're in safe hands.

It's interesting that the Riff Raffs (on paper) are very similar to the Mules - wonder what the actual difference is since they both use A5 magnets & are wound to 8.4k (wire gauge perhaps?)

That laney sounds like it has a great crunch to it. I want to hear some proper recordings with a decent mic now :P

Ha ha - thanks Tom! The midrange has a lot to do with the Vintage 30s. Played though my 4x12 with G12-75Ts there's a lot more "bite". I'll be using the 4x12 live for plenty of cut, but the 2x12 sounds great at home and for recording.

What mic do you suggest? Shure SM-57?

I have no idea about mics, as I cant afford such luxuries :P .. But SM57 seem to be popular, also I remember Bainzy did a recording with a "Studio B" mic or something like that (cant remember its proper name) that sounds pretty good aswell and it wasnt too dear.

Yeah I'd endorse the sm57- a great instrument mic for the money though often used in conjunction with a condenser mic. There is a Blue Ball mic that I think Ben (Twighlight Odyssey) was impressed with- I think I have . Ben posted a brillient piece about mic placement too by the way. I don't think you can go wrong with an SM57.

i think it is a Studio Projects B-1. I have one, they are about 70 quid with shock mount.

I don't doubt the Riff Raffs will sound much better, but how much better is the question! I'll be using the same guitar, same strings, same amp, same settings etc - the only difference will be the Riff Raffs. Can't wait!
