Quick comparison on Mule vs Black Dog
« on: July 03, 2006, 12:37:06 PM »
Hi All

Wondering if anyone can give me a quick few points on how the Mules compare to the Black Dog.  I've had some Mules before, fantastic things, but not heard the Dogs.

Cheers, N.

I've never played the BD's but from what I've read it seems like they have more of a mid push and probably a brighter more agressive tone as they use A5 magnets whereas the Mule uses A4.

_tom_ is close to my own observations. I can tell you from my own experience what I've noticed between the two:

I noted the Mule as being 'balanced'. It has a fairly flat frequency response, with a slight emphasis on the upper mids and treble.

The Black Dog is 'brighter' (according to my notes) with a wider peak, and a more pronounced midrange.

I dont know about the Black Dog but the Mule has a very ba;anced tone. Its the first pickup ive had where i set all the tone controls on my amp (bass, middle, treble) in the centre position and sounds great. It does'nt need much extra eq to get the tone i want from it.
