Whilst browsing EvilBay for some more aged amplification, I came accorss some of these suckers. Anyone have any experience of them?

The concepts great and all, but I've a feeling the execution may not be..

Says on the site that Ty Tabor uses the RM4 MTS Rack, so that might be an indication? :)

My mate has one, IMO it doesn't sound anything special but then I haven't played any ENGLs, Soldanos, Bogners etc - ie new generation hi-gain type stuff. He has the Clean module, a Rectifier module and an Ultra module...not much scope for anything but metal really!
Guitarist mag thought pretty highly of it.
And it's the largest head I've ever seen, which has to be a good thing :twisted:

Regarding the execution though I think they've done a good job - it would be interesting to hear one with more traditional modules in it!
It certainly seems better built and more reliable than my old Seymour Duncan Convertible as well!

They are fairly expensive (too expensive imo) for what they are. I also felt that many of the modules don't seem to capture the amps they're supposedly moddled after - they all sounded very similar to me.

I have a Randall Titan head & I think what Randall do best is full-on solid state metal amps (heh) :twisted: The Titan is also surprisingly versatile with the gain backed off and a Tele commanding proceedings (I was quite surprised at 'how' good)

I will say that they suck at bedroom volumes, but then again so do most amps (arguably).

Well, looking at the "traditional" modules - how can they be right with all the transistors and stuff on them?

I'd not go for it for the money ....

Some say they're quite good. It's certainly a heep better than the digital modellig thingies. I haven't heard it in person yet but I have heard some clips on the web. I liked the JTM, plexi, SL and blackface modules alot. The modern hi gain modules (xtc, recto etc) didn't really float my boat.

I rather liked the idea and was very keen when I heard that George Lynch was using his own signature version

On the sound samples I did notice that keeping the power tubes the same and obviously the rest of the power section is identical it did kind of colour everything the same no matter what module you used

I dont know what function the ICs and transistors played in the circuit though - seems strange in a VALVE amp unless they perform a switching function and are not in the signal path

To be fair - most players tend to like a narrow-ish bandwidth of tones
even if they go from classic to to nu metal

However I am doing something similar myself having a rack full of different makes of valve preamps and a switching system.
Mainly ADA MP1s - some of which have been modified via www.adadepot.com . The 3TM mod is fab for serious metal stuff - very Zakk Wylde

If you take the "purists" like myself from the equation, then there is nothing but great reviews really. I personally just love a pure tube sound, but other than that they have been touted as a great amp considering that you can change everything out module wise, and the like. I just like to plug in and play though. *shrugs* I wouldn't turn onr down either way though.
