Cold sweat clean/coil split
« on: June 13, 2006, 01:53:00 AM »
If anyone has a cold sweat can they tell me how it sounds completely clean? Do you have to mess with the volume and tone a lot to get a good sound from them?

And if anyone has one coil split, how do they sound clean and with light overdrive?

I'm looking for a pickup with thick heavy bottom end but nothing like a Warpig. It must also sound pretty good at low gain and clean. It needs to be tight enough to sound clear when doing Rammstein-esque riffs in standard tuning. Nailbombs sound too thin, but those Holy Drivers and Cold Sweats sound pretty damn good.

I have a Cold Sweat, and just borrowed a Holy Diver from PhilKing.

The Cold Sweat sounds great clean, but you will get some compression from the ceramic magnet. Personally, I like that sound.

I just demo'd a new riff using a VHII. If I had read this thread first, I woulda used the Cold Sweat! D'oh!!

Thanks, I think the Cold Sweats are the perfect choice for my next guitar. I'm sticking them in a Ibanez RGT42, 2550e or 1520GBP.

:D I have a set of C/S`s that are 4 open poled conducter. They are great clean but i prefer to use `em clean when coil tapped. I never had to play around adjusting Tone pots etc they where great clean straight out of the box !!   :D

If you add a slight touch of gain when there coil split they sound great very early style Rock `n` Roll type stuff. They`ve got a great focused sound to`em. If your going to play `em clean i would suggest getting them coil tapped as they are gainy espiecialy the neck

 :D  8)

PS They`ll do the Rammerstien stuff No Sweat !! [ excuse the pun ! ]
God I could do with a Gin & Tonic !

Alright, the Ibanez RG1520GBP has a Edge pro bridge with piezo's for the Roland GK synth system. I know I could totally have fun with one of those.

But look at the wiring diagram:

http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=2005&w=RG1520G

It seems to have a special switching system, dubbed "S1" switching I think. But if you notice there is no single coil split bridge option, it's wired with a split neck pickup. Is it possible to wire it so instead of combining a coil from the neck and a coil from a bridge, to just a coil in the bridge?

EDIT: I just took a good look at the RG1820XGK, it's got the same piezo bridge but the piezo signal can also be mixed in with the magnetic pickups, or be completely separate and send through a line for the synth. Niiiice.
