Moving pickups to LP
« on: July 04, 2006, 07:12:20 PM »
I'm wondering if I can take the pickups from my PRS and move them to my Les Paul. I know that sounds really easy but my PRS had that evil five way selector switch on it so Tim reversed the magnet in the neck pickup. What difference would that make to my LP? The pickups are CS in the neck and MM in the bridge. Believe Tim when he says that they are a great combo for shred, they are amazing!

One of the 5 way rotary positions is neck humbucker only & that still sounds good?  So no reason why it can't work on the LP.  Are you just going to install it with the standard LP toggle, 2 volumes, 2 tones setup (i.e. no coil tapping)?

IMO, if position 5 on the PRS rotary sounds OK to you, then you'll be fine putting those pickups in the LP.

Of course, if it was me, I'd just buy a new MM/CS set for the LP & keep the PRS as it is
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

I'll coil tap the LP for the pickups. Thanks for the reply, the PRS has to go though. Doesn't sound beefy enough for me.
