new bridge pickup help
« on: July 10, 2006, 01:02:44 PM »
ok ive got a miracle man in the bridge at the moment and im looking to change it for something else. Things i like about the mm are the treble and the way it cuts the power of the pickup and the tight tracking bass. Things i dont like the honky ceramic clean tone, lack of harmonic detail in the upper mids, the slightly sterile feel and the way the tone just seems to be a bit to shrill at times and its bass can be a bit ott at times any suggestions?

its gotta be thick raunchy has to scream be full of tone and be bouncey sizzle with throaty mids but really cut through and be powerfull enough to cause some serious damage.

Cold Sweat or Nailbomb sounds like what you're after, although I havent played either, from what I've read on here they seem ideal.

I would go for a lower output pickup to get the kind of tone you described.
Mule,Trilogy,Irish Tours,Holy Diver and Apaches.

Im in love with the Cold Sweat for shredding it's immense and it's also got a pretty good jazz tone aswell!

but yea the bridge pickup is too hot maybe? let me list some songs Im totally in love with the tone on and u'll see what I mean.

btw, please dont suggest a VHII coz i've already got a set of VHII's and they're ace at what they do but they're not what im after for this guitar.

Andy Timmons - Cry For You (The Live version on You tube)
Joe Satriani - Why (Great tone on solo at 2:00)
Joe Satriani - I Believe (Main Solo, 5:00)
Joe Satriani - The Crush of Love (Whole Damn song!)
Dream Theater - Good Night Kiss (Solo)
Van Halen - Ice Cream Man (Solo on that is a belter)

If I could somehow capture the best of all those sounds?

Is it not a song from DLR alone, and not VH??

Its a full VH track. It rocks, 12 bar boogie!
I would check out the VHII or even the Mule for the tones you want, and they will do so much more!

Yes I think it's a song from David Lee Roth, not VH...

EDIT: well it seems he made two songs with same title....

EDIT2: I understood: DLR sings it in the "Diamond Dave" album. It's a John Brim song, probaby a cover if I understand.

I would have to say Nailbomb, especially with all that Satch you listed. Flick a calibrated NB set to middle position and witness SATCHIFIED TONE. Seriously, you can get that super smooth, articulate and wide open tone that Satriani achieves at middle and neck positions. It's seriously sweet. I think it has the right amount of power and grunt in the bridge you're looking for. I'm a little sad that you don't really favor the Miracle Man because your playing and tone in some clips is what persuaded me to get a MM-CS set! But whatever...everyone has to find their own sound.

I spent a few hrs today messing about with my amp which is fairly new to me and found some tones that really excite me and have the qualities im looking for... so I don't think i need to change the bridge pickup lol.

I've managed to get that midrange sizzle i was after..
so yea +1 to the miracle man again lol

although I might buy an NB just to try out the difference.
