Riff Raffs doing Riff Raff - YC/DC live!
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:13:32 PM »
Thought you guys might like this.  A recording of me and YC/DC at rehearsal on Tuesday doing what Riff Raffs do best  :D  I'm not sure where all the treble has gone unless it's just my PC speakers - it was cutting as hell live!

So here we go - enjoy!

Your band sounds very good!   I wish the guitar was louder/more of it.

Did you use your GH50L?

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened with the sound.  It was really bright and aggressive in the room.  Must have been the mic (a Seinheiser condenser) or some dodgy EQing.

I never succeeded to get a proper band recording with just one mic in the studio. Maybe it's because there's too much noise and the mic is too far away from the sound sources.

We did get some nice recordings on a live gig with a MD recorder in the back of the venue.

Great band, what does your 'Malcolm' use?

Cheers Ratrod.  You're right about the one mic thing, it is tricky.  We're hoping to do some "proper" recording at a studio in the New Year.

"Malcolm" uses a 70s Yamaha SG700S and a Marshall MG50DFX 1x12 combo.  Let's just say he's not a tone connoisseur!  It's strange because he's a real perfectionist when it comes to everything else!  I'm trying to get him to at least buy a tube amp...

Maybe he stands next to the drummer and cant hear it, by the way I think thats why your mix sounds the way it does, the mic's too close to the drums. Try putting the drummer in another room. Or building.

Make that Laneys  ;)

He knows, he's just not bothered.  I've never known a guitarist to not be a gear geek!

Well, I know two who arent gear geeks  One thinks that no parts, hardware etc will be as good as the parts on his Gibson LP studio and the other thinks his Zoom multifx into his MG100 sounds better than a real amp setup haha

We'll be hitting the studio for recordings in Janurary.

Strange, a Yamaha SG doesn't really sounds very 'Malcolm'. Something semi-hollow chambered with growly pickups would be better.

Although this is off topic for the thread, whilst on the topic of proper studio recordings I think the cover band I'm in are gonna get some proper recordings done in a few weeks, so you guys will be able hear my real tone instead of hiding behind cr@p camera mics and v-amps
