Help With Computers - Audio From CD's is Blippy
« on: August 27, 2006, 07:27:24 PM »
When trying to listen to an audio CD on my computer, to my horror I find the audio is blippy, and sounds like it's being streamed from the internet.
For some reason, it also affects all other audio on my computer as well.
It's very annoying as the current edition of Guitar Techniques has 70 tracks, and I don't want to use my hi-fi to listen to it.
So does anyone know what's causing it, and how it could be fixed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly is the CD clean and unscratched,

does it play on a normal CD player ?

If you have a headphone jack on the cd rom drive, see if it has problems if you plug into there

Make sure your anti-virus has scanning disabled for the CD drive.

I didn't think of that, thanks.

I'll check to see if it works later.

Anyway, I am sure it is not a CD problem, it is definitely a computer problem, as it has happened on more than one CD, and really doesn't "sound" like a CD problem.

check: soundcard drivers

run the DX Diag thingy and check Direct Sound..

Do you have lots of add ons? Or an overclocked gfx card? Might be the CD drive isnt getting enough power..

What gets me about computers( and I admit I know little about the inner workings) is why they are working fine one minute and they stop.Mechanical things I can understand as they have parts that wear ( as do PC's I know) it is very confusing.Clearly something somewhere has changed but as for what it is-'tis a mystery.
