I'm planning on changing the pickups in my Gibson Les Paul, to a BKP HB (probably a Black Dog but not made up my mind yet) and an MQ in the neck. I know getting the MQ RWRP would mean it hum cancels when I use the middle position, but I was wondering what impact this would have on the sound when I use the neck pickup on it's own, as I've been told it doesn't sound as good.
My Fender Strat (Sinner/IT/IT) has it's middle pickup RWRP, and whilst I love positions 1,2,4 and 5, position 3 just doesn't impress as much. That said, I've never really liked the middle pickup on any guitar I've owned, doesn't have the bite of the bridge pickup or the beutiful tone of the neck, so it may be more to do with the position than the fact that it's RWRP.
I love the sound of neck pickups for blues stuff, so if RWRP will impact the tone I'll do without hum cancelling.
Thanks in advance for any info.
