Pickup staggering with compound radius?
« on: September 14, 2006, 09:50:57 AM »
Hey all,

I currently have a set of Apaches with vintage stagger fitted into my 50s strat, which has a 7.25" radius.

I'm thinking of replacing the neck with a Warmoth neck, which would have a compound radius going from 10" at the nut to 16" at the 22nd fret. Would the staggered Apaches still work ok with this neck, or would a flatter stagger work best?

Do BKP have the ability to 're-stagger' a set of pickups?

Cheers,
Jordan.

The vintage stagger will still work.  To restagger the pickups you would have to change the magnets.
So many pickups, so little time

IMO the vintage stagger would work fine.

Bear in mind it wasn't designed to follow the radius of the fretboard, but to increment the heights of the pole pieces for people using a wound 3rd (which hardly anyone does, but the stagger contributes to the character of the strat sound)
