Miracle Man in RG570?
« on: September 18, 2006, 10:23:19 AM »
Hey guys, i've already asked Tim about this but i'm just looking for a second oppinion.

I have a ibanez rg570, basswood body, bolt on neck, rosewood fingerboard, floating bridge, setup with 12-56 guage nickel wound strings, tuned to DGCFAD, and i play thrash metal such as kreator, sodom, destruction, forbidden, testament, melodic death metal like dark tranquility, the haunted etc...

I need something that wont sound dark in my guitar, has tight bass response and wont muddy up under drop tuning.

I currently use digital i play through a line6 pod xt.
But contrary to what some people think pickups do make more difference than some people say, some say it makes no difference at all digital. From experience i think this is utter cr@p.

Will the miracle man do the job?

Thanks in advance for any advice and guidence.

Kind regards,

Daniel

Daniel,

Are you running the stock pickups in the guitar currently?  If not, what do you have in there right now that you are unsatisfied with?  I have a few basswood guitars (Fender HM, Ibanez RG7621) with DiMarzio's and stock pickups, respectively that I am also looking to replace the pickups on... but for what the BKP's cost per pickup here in the states, it's going to be a slow, baby-step process.  Almost certainly my 7 string will be the first to get BKPs.

Jeff

i have a dimarzio tonezone in my bridge position and a seymour duncan 59 in the neck that i dont use and has been in there longer than the tonezone. The tonezone has too much bottom end and has loose bass response and has the tendancy to be flabby when i chug/riff on the low E (D in my case since i play in D standard)

LOL.  Gotcha.  Yeah, I run a Tone Zone in the bridge and a Humbucker from Hell in the neck of my Fender HM, ala Petrucci for Images and Words era stuff.  My Ibanez USRG30 is loaded with his Awake era combo of Air Norton neck and Steve's Special bridge.  That combo is MUCH brighter, but then again, that guitar is a maple capped alder guitar with the tone pot taken out of the circuit.  Very edgy and bright, but tight.  I think the BKP's are definitely a move in the right direction though.  Almost certainly I'm thinking Nailbomb for your application.  The Miracle Man might be a little bass heavy... but not as much as the Tone Zone.  But I'll leave that up to more experienced forum members to answer.

Good luck with your choice.

Jeff

All can say is this.
I have a MM Petrucci (DiMarzio as std. still and obviously Basswood).
Well, I am getting (soon) Miracle Man pups for it :)

Matched set, Nick?  Or are you sticking something else in the neck?  How does the MM neck model match up with the Air Norton.  The AN is pretty much nearly every DiMarzio fan's ideal neck PU.  At least in the circles I run in.

Thanks,
Jeff

LoL well yeah in the past i've had some bad pickup application problems, my previous guitar a Ibanez SZ520 i had a Dimarzio Steve's Special in and that was a bad idea to put a slightly scooped mids pickup in.

When i got the RG the first pickup i had in it was the Seymour Duncan Dimebucker and '59.. i had a dimebag set in it.

Dimebucker was ok, but not enough mids and i found that it killed sustain when i had it too close to the strings but when i backed it off it wasnt getting enough bite and i was having problems finding the middle ground.

Then i tried a Seymour Duncan Custom, BAD idea.. sounded dark as in my guitar.

Then i went to the tonezone which was the best choice yet, it sounds great as long as your not riffing on the low e and then it sounds sorta gross. Well very gross haha!.

Given what i play, a friend suggested the following options to me:

EMG81, EMG85, Seymour Duncan JB.

But i thought i'd give BKP's a shot i've been really enjoying some of the MM clips i've heard but they have been in mahogony bodied guitars :(

I'm actually yet to hear a nailbomb playing like thrash or speed metal if anyone out there is willing i'd like to hear such and would greatly appreciate it.

Regards,

Daniel

They SUCK!
Well, just in my opinion but then I am a BKP convert.
I said in another thread, I put custom Warpigs in a Gibbo Explorer. Well, sent Explorer for setup and was without it for cpl. weeks. Mean time got my Mesa.
Well was happily playing my Pet through the Mesa and had it all set up nice (although was never really impressed with the Pet pups anyway (too quiet, albeit very articulate).
Well, Explorer gets back so wanna try it through the Mesa now.
OMG, nearly shite myself, dog runs, mum screams, Tone and Vol. is AAAGGGHHH!
So, in panic go to turn down guitar.
Then, really did shock myself (not expecting that assault on same settings as was playing Pet) think, hmm wonder what it sounds like on clean channel? That WAS the bloody clean channel!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically, Mr.Petrucci can use what he wants but me, I am BKP'ing every axe I have as soon as can afford it.

I have seen the tonal future and it's handmade in Cornwall

LOL!  Kickass, dude.  You know, with word of mouth advertising like this... I hope Tim makes a $hitload of cash for the work he does and the quality he puts out.  Who would have guessed that as of last week I had never even HEARD of BKP... and after talking to Chris Broderick of Jag Panzer I found out about them.  Now I want to put the bloody things in every friggin guitar I have.  Oh to be independently wealthy.. or to get that damn money tree to start growing again.  :)

Thanks,
Jeff

Miracle Mans would be ideal for tightening up the bass, clearing up your sound and giving it all one big kick up the ass in the right direction.

OMG! "That WAS the bloody clean channel !!!!!!!!!!" is like one of the best punchlines ever. I laughed heartily I must say.

That would be me, with Nailbombs and Irish Tour or Trilogy Suites and a Crawler set coming in the near future ;)

I suggest Nailbombs because they are much more versitile too but Dan realies heavily on hearing clips playing what he wants to do with them... (which is why I asked for thrash clips actually).

I now feel bad for recommending a TZ when he uses massive strings.... but as he said he does like it but it's too bass heavy (kind of like the guitar is not plugged in).
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.
