Alright mate,

In one of the other threads, I've just noticed that you have a set of mules in a Patrick Eggle Berlin.  Could you let me know what you think of them in that axe and what sort of music you generally play.

I picked up a Patrick Eggle Berlin Anniversary (slightly different to yours as mine has 4 holes for tone and vol pots and a 3 way switch) for the bargin price of £150 brand new from the factory.  It's one of the old ones that was made when Mr Eggle himself still ran things, but it had been sat in the back for about 10 years, all sprayed up.  It just needed all the ancillaries putting on and a damn good polish (as well as all the masking tape being taken off the fretboard - which is bloody hard when it was sprayed over 10 years ago).

Cheers mate.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

£150? that's excellent!

No idea about the pickups, but I figured that deal required some congratulations!

:D

Not as much conratulations as my mate that grabbed 4 of them and a load of fretking necks

He did sell me one for the price he paid though  :D

£150 for a Berlin is more than a good deal - it's almost theft!

The Mules are brilliant in the Berlin. Tim told me that it wouldn't have the grunt of a Les Paul and he's right - the Berlin is a much more compact guitar with less wood mass and it ends up sounding more lean and wiry than an LP. Maybe more like a good SG. I like a more nimble humbucker sound anyway.

I play mainly blues, classic rock and maybe a bit of prog if I think I can handle it. However the Mules can make a decent job of Jazz and metal too. The original pickups were Kent Armstrongs (yours might be Seymour Duncans - they switched manufacturers soon after I bought mine) and they always sounded too trebly and harsh. The Mules have given this guitar a new lease of life. I play it more often than my PRS Singlecut Trem.

If you're a dedicated heavy rock / metal guy, I'd get something else. Likewise a Jazz guy would probably want the slightly less hot Stormy Mondays. For anything else, the Mules make an excellent and very versatile choice.

Cheers mate.

I'm more of a blues and funk kind of guy so I'll definately have a look.  I should (hopefully) be getting all the electrics in it at some point in the next few weeks (after payday).  I'll be throwing in some dimarzio's for a while but then I'll be putting the BKP's in (if I can convince the missus).

Glad you like the Eggle, I definately think that this guitar is going to be with me for the rest of my life.  It's just about perfect.  It's just a pity that my playing still sounds like two cat fighting  :(

I love the neck on my Berlin - an ebony fretboard and jumbo frets make for a great playing surface.
