Hi Guys,

Im a BKP NOOOB! :D and im very keen on getting a set of new pickups into my gibson les paul classic. right now it has the ceramic 500T and 498R (i think). these pickups sound awesome when metal riffing away, but clean and slightly overdriven - im not a fan. toooo harsh and lack dynamics. however, in metal, they are pretty cool.

Im looking for a set that is quite versitile. I play in a band that plays rock, metal, pop and funk. so im looking for somthing with nice, clear cleans and huge riffage - i know, its hard to find the 1 pickup that can do this...On my guitars to date ive stayed close to alnico 5s, they have a nice clear rind to them and a deep bass response which i like. but maybe its time to try somthing else?

So far, from my preliminary research, im leaning towards a calibrated set of Nailbombs or Rebel Yells - but im worried i wont have the tru Les Paul sound coming out of them (moreso for the nailbombs) - thats somthing that i would really like to keep.

anyways, any help or direction into what set would suit me would be great.

for the record, the les paul is a mahogany body, maple cap, rosewood fingerboard.

Cheers!

Ishan

My first thought would be a Rebel Yell for the bridge and a Mississipi Queen or Mule for the neck position.

I'm guessing Rebel Yells or Mules will do what you want, leaning more to Rebel Yells as theyre higher output so probably more suited to metal. That being said I play metal with my Mule set no problems, as does Tim in Ozzmosis I think.

Likewise   - they're pretty similar in output (I believe), Crawlers for a beefed-up vintage tone, RYs for a slightly brighter, more "modern" tone.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

From my experience, Rebel Yells for more  modern or Black Dogs for more Classic. Both are awesome with Clean and Rock and are still transparent enough for heavy riffin'

Anything in BKPs lineup will be better than your stock pickups by the way.

Hi Tim - sorry, think you've got the wrong person - Im from Australia mate! (soon to be the new home of the ashes  :P ) - would have cost me a bit to call the UK!

Thanks for your responses guys. from what im hearing, it seems i should prolly stay away from the nailbombs and go all out on the RY set. im thinking as the LP has a bit more of a warmer sound, the brighter RY should work well..interesting!

Cheers guys,

Ishan
