Awesome glassy tone?
« on: November 26, 2006, 05:45:16 PM »
There's this weird glassy tone on Kingston Wall - Shine On Me
it's something I've never heard before, lately I've been totally obsessed with it!!

now I'd like to know how to achieve it?
what effects/pedals, pickups, amp, settings?
I believe there's at least a compressor but don't know what else

Kingston Wall were a Finnish progressive rock band, which singer/guitarist/mastermind commited a suicide in 1995
so I don't think how well you guys can find the song
could somebody tell me some place to upload the song for everybody hear?

rapidshare.de will allow you to upload the file, then you can post the link here so we can download it

its free, but there is a 45 second wait (or thereabouts) before any downloading, and obviously they are a little tight on copyrighted material so I would advise putting the mp3 in a zip file or folder, and naming it something innocuous.

For ease of download, it might be worth uploading only the part you want us to hear.

I know rapidshare but I'm not too fond of them, but now when you said it I'll use it then
hang on a moment and I'll upload it there

EDIT: atm all the servers of Rapidshare are full, but my bro told me about this place called SendSpace
I'll try it there and hope better results

EDIT2: yeah, SendSpace is much better... here's the link:

Sounds like a neck pickup (single coil?) played with a short echo and reverb through a  valve amp with a touch of break up, and pushed harder for the first ead and bridge pickup pushed even more for the main solo. There's not much bass or mid which maybe gives the glassy sound, no magic tricks though :) Nice tune, I love the sax.
