What the hell do those words even mean in terms of overdrive? Seriously, sometimes people use the weirdest terms in the guitar world.

The best is - lots of mid, barely any bass.

i like my analogman SD-1/808. SD-1 side is open and transparent and HUGE, where the 808 side is more compressed and focussed

I'm liking the Xotic BB pre-amp with my Marshall. Similar to a tube screamer without the mid range hump- oh and its a quality bit of kit, very very low noise.

i never understand why people dislike mid-humps. i have an e.q. with the sole purpose of adding a mid hump. it rocks!

I like dialling in some mids on my amp settings but I'm not keen on the nasally stuff- its just not my tone........each to their own n'all that, but I've never been satisfied with tubescreamers, originals/reissues/keeley modded whatever- I've tried the lot! Having said all that I do like the tones of some guitarists where allegedly they've used a TS! I guess I just don't sound any good thro' em.....

Answer is MI Audio Crunch Box - awesome for 100$ - best of all my drive pedals, cleans up great has huge gain without mudding and a good bottom end (others in my collection are: Marshall Guv'nor I, Diamond SE drive, DOD Malmsteen, Halo Rust Driver, OD808, Fulltone Soul Bender and ZVex Octane3)

The ZVex Box Of Rock might do a great job too, but more than twice the price

Seems perfectly understandable to me. Let me know if you need help in deciphering it. Seems no one else had trouble understanding either.

Hi Hunter so you use the Crunch box with the shiva? someone mentioned the crunch box is OTP but a Shiva is similar ot a JCM800 though so might try it.

I actually tried an Xotic BB and liked it for leads alot for rhythm though it was  a bit too warm and not as open as original tone. I like my MXR ZW-44 but wonder how a modded SD-1 sounds. I think Tim uses a modded SD-1 here also.

the ZW-44 IS a modded SD-1.  they are pretty much the same pedal, just a tweak here and there (typical mods that people do to these pedals).

zakk wylde to van halen terratory type tones.. depending on my mood.
