Can a combo be used as a cabinet?
« on: January 16, 2007, 06:51:43 PM »
hi
i have a marshall MG250DFX combo (don't laugh.).

im after a laney head, but have no 2x12 cabinet for it..... soooo....

can you use an amp head plugged into the speaker cables on my combo?
i.e. unplug the speaker cables from the top section of the combo, then plug them into the Laney, basically using the combo as a cabinet without turning it on.

thanks, i bet i'm wrong!

of course you can - be sure to match up the impedence though.
The speakers in MGs SUCK btw - so you'll hear nothing representing what the amp can really do.

DAMNIT!!! plus first impressions are everything, so i may be disappointed....

oh well, worth a try.

can you do that with any combo that has those speaker cables at the back?
i don't know if i have any more here, but it's worth a look around if you can use any.

just make sure you're plugging the speakers from the MG into the laney, and that you aren't plugging the laney into the amp part of the MG.

^ yeah, it should be fine. Just it's quite easy to get things back to front and plug them the wrong way round, lol.

you want to plug the wire/jack coming from the mg's speakers into the laney head. far as I know.
