Cab for epiphone vj head
« on: January 01, 2007, 09:25:22 AM »
Hi guys ive got a question to ask of you!!
Ive just ordered a epi valve junior head and due to my lack of a cab to go with it was wondering if you have any suggestions?
Im not looking to spend a fortune and was thinking of maybe like making one myself.

How difficult would this be to do and what speaker would be a good one for it.

I was thinking of a eminence red fang or a celestion of some description.

Oh yeah i want it to be a 2 by 12 or a 2 by 10.

Thanks in advance

depending on how cheap you can make it, thomann are selling a framus 2x12 cab with vintage 30's, and it can be run either closed back or semi-open.

I haven't actually tried this cab, but it seems a good deal for 295 euro/£197...

I wouldn't pick v30's for a VJ, but i guess you could always sell them on if you want to switch speakers (or keep them for variety). Really depends what you're after and what budget you have/are willing to spend.

I'm planning on converting my old vox pathfinder practice amp into a 1x12 cab for my VJ, I'm probably going to go with either a greenback or eminence private jack. Problem with the red fang (or celestion blue) is that they cost more than the amp!

I use a Laney GS112 with mine and it works well, very reasonable price too (£99 at GAK).

The 112 has a Celestion 70 Eighty speaker in it, plus they also have a 2x10 version with Jensons.
Sinner, Irish Tour, Mothers Milk, Trilogy, Mule, Black Dog, Mississippi Queen, Warpig

Thanks for the replies. :D

my searching over the past couple of days turned up the laney 112 and it seems good value might give it a try.

They also have a cheap marshall one at piedog too.

Also i'm looking at doing the full mod to this head too.

Actually i'm really looking forward to all this!! :P

once again cheers

Oh and i never realised how expensive some speakers can be!! :(

Bringing this topic back from the dead.

Epiphone will soon be offering a matching cab for the Valve Junior.

Epiphone amps any good then, they're certainly affordable...
I too use chicken as a measurement.

^ depends what you want it for, but as long as you realise the limitations, then the VJ is very, very nice, especially for the price, in my opinion.

and there are a heck of a lot of mods available too, if you're any good at electronics.
