HB SC wiring ?
« on: April 27, 2007, 03:01:17 PM »
Thought I'd jump on the band wagon with my wiring questions!

I have a couple of esp mirage deluxe's which only have a humbucker at the bridge and a single coil at the neck.  Weird I know!

As a result I'm finding it almost impossible to find the right wiring diagrams; i've never done any wiring before but I think I should find out how to do it - so this is my wiring question!

How do I wire a humbucker and a single coil with a three way switch and two pots?  Ideally I'd like these to control the volume of each pickup, with coil tapping (push pull pot?)- not to fussed about shaping the tone using the guitar.

Cheers

fist things first  - what type of switch are you using.  Is it a gibson style toggle switch or a fender style blade switch?

here is  aquick diagram with the fender style switch;

I have done it with BKP colour code, the red wire is the hot one and goes to the volume - then to the switch.

The green wire on the humbucker will be the green and white coil tap wire.

All the black wires go to ground/earth.

thats one way of doing it anyway

cHEERS

it's Def a blade switch, but I dont really want to drill any extra holes in the body for coil tapping, i was thinking push pulls for the volume controls instead?

yeah, the switch i drew could either be a DPDT mini switch or a push/ pull switch attached to the volume

there are different types of switches for this but since you mentioned  the push/pull pot i drew the one you most likely will use.  They look like this:

i drew them seperately because its easier.

There area lso different types of blade switch so i drew the fender one.  It might have all the contacts in a row as apposed to 4 each side.  Take a look in your guitar - take a photo and we will see
