question about mixing nailbomb/coldsweat (alnico/ceramic...)
« on: January 21, 2007, 04:13:50 PM »
Hi, I think I'm going to order either a nailbomb set or a mix of nailbomb bridge and coldsweat neck soon. I saw that a lot of you seem to love the coldsweat neck, but I just noticed it is a ceramic, and I've always heard to either have both pickups ceramic or both alnico and not to mixmatch them because of the differences.... also, I want my neckpickup to cleanup pretty well when coilsplit, and I've heard that ceramics usually do not clean up as well.... but then again, I saw that the coldsweat has slightly lower dc resistance than the nailbomb, which makes it seem like it could work well together. I'm not really sure what to do. what do you guys think? I've heard of a lot of you having and liking the nailbomb/cold sweat combo, and I was thinking that's what I wanted until I noticed that the CS was ceramic.... what do you think? help me out when you get chance...

Thanks,
Josh

i think if you get a Cold Sweat neck it will be an alnico. at least i remember hearing that all neck pickups are alnico (i guess unless you ask for something else)

Oh, really? I guess I didn't notice that. I just saw that it said ceramic on the description... I guess that was only talking about the bridge though? Yeah, I thought I saw somebody saying the only neck pickup that was ceramic was *I think* the painkiller... so that confused me when I saw the description of the coldsweat...

I have a Nailbomb bridge/Cold Sweat neck on a partsocaster and it is a great combination.  I also have a Cold Sweat/Painkiller set (all ceramic), with this combination, the neck pickup has as much attack as the bridge
So many pickups, so little time

hmm, is there anyone on here that really likes the nailbomb neck pickup? I can't decide if I should go with the nailbomb or coldsweat for the neck. I do like to play fast, technical lead stuff though, and the coldsweat is supposed to be great for shred stuff so i'm kinda leaning toward that...

thanks. what kind of music does he play though? is the coldsweat more for 80's shred kinda stuff or can it do more modern technical metal leads too? for the neck, I like a really fat, warm, pretty hot output, but still crisp, defined kinda sound... for sweeping melodies and such... would be cool if it had a good clean sound when coil split too...
