Korean Squire Strat & BKP's

Hi

Just like to test the water, i've been offered an oldish looking Korean Squire Strat for £100. it plays ok, no idea what wood it is, maple board.

I'm quite keen to get a Strat, and as moneys bit tight at mo, i'm looking to get this. My point is, would a pre-wired scratch plate with say for instance some Irish Tours, make this a decent sounding guitar?

Silly question maybe, but havin been a 70's tele man for last ten years, i'm not sure if good tones are poss from Korean Squires?!?!

Hmmm... well, if you're budget's tight and you like the way it plays, it might be fine. Play it unplugged and listen to the tone... compare it to a guitar you really like. If the unplugged tone is good, then obviously a great set of pickups should lead to an amazing guitar.

If you can, though, I'd save up for a good Mexican or Jap... a mate of mine has an old Japanese Squire that sounds totally awesome. I think the Korean ones are constructed on too tight a budget to use great tonewoods.

It's probrably a false economy to go for the Korean jobbie, i quite like the sound of the latest Highway One upgraded Strats - they've been getting good reviews in the Guitar mag's (i'd go another step and throw the Irish Tours in that then)

Oh well, thats kinda solved that then,better get saving

I've got a nailbomb and 2 trilogies in a cheapo ($350 AUD, 138 pounds, $270 US) alder Yamaha Pacifica, and for me having spent under $800 AUD (315 pounds/$618 US) on getting it where it is now, I'm very happy with it. I know my BKPs could be better in a more expensive guitar, but it's still bloody good!
