they could always get a laney practice amp..... some of them are valve and a couple are dead cheap

but, like i was, if you know nothing about guitars, and you see something that says "the ultimate amp!!! the Spider delivers whatever your need is!" you would buy it! i did with the MG250DFX.

Amp Demons! xD

I've had possessed amps before - Turning themselves to full power and suprising the hell out of me when I turn them on xD

I also had a squier set when I started playing guitar (Didn't everyone?) and yeah, that stuff is painful nowadays xD

i sold my fist ever strat ages ago

it was Behringer, it came with the Behringer GM108

Well, back then i didn't care for tone, but now i do (like hell!) i have realised just how good this practice amp is. is has warmth, power, tone, etc etc haha i bet it owns all of your little Squier amps hahaha

i play anything to be honest, but mainly i need it for my band, and since we play at school i mainly need it for pop punk kinda stuff.well basically it needs a good gain channel.but at home i play anything.

my pick around that price would probably either be a laney vc30 or maybe a peavey classic 30- I prefer the laney, but the peavey may have a little more gain.

ashdown fallen angel or randall rg50tc would be worth a try too, and marshall dsl.

It really depends how heavy you need to get- I think I could play pop-punk with a vc30 (certainly if I could crank it), but that doesn't mean it has enough dirt for you, lol. And of course it also depends how versatile it needs to be when you aren't with your band.

The peavey windsor is a nice amp too for that 80's hot-rodded marshall type tone on a budget- it's worth a look too, the head is about £70 under budget, but you'd probably struggle to get a decent cab to go with it. and also 100 watts is a lot!

alternatively you could look second hand.

I got a 50W JCM800 2x12 combo (4104) for £400. You can't beat it - if i were yu i'd shop around for one! It'll do pretty much any marshall tone worth having with an sd-1 in front of it, although it'll easily do pop-punk without.

EDIT: Looking on ebay they seem to be going for about double what i paid nowadays... Lucky me i guess! You could p'haps look for a 1x12 combo instead?
