Boss bridge vs. Piledriver bridge with Yardbird neck
« on: February 08, 2007, 04:40:46 PM »
I have a US Standard Tele with the Yardbird set. The neck is nothing short of amazing, but I've grown to realise that I'm not loving the bridge. I posted a while ago about this and made some adjustments in pickup height, which have improved things, but I'm still wondering if I chose the wrong bridge pickup.

Does anyone know if the change from Yardbird bridge to Boss bridge is going to make a significant difference to my tone (as opposed to just output level? I'm happy with the perceived output level of the Yardbird bridge, but it lacks the tonal complexity that I want - it sounds thin and too bright. Maybe I should be thinking about the Piledriver bridge too?

Thanks,

Andy.

The boss is quite a bright pickup, but is the vintage tele tone, Tim suggested it to get a Roy Buchanan tone.  The Piledriver is a Broadcaster pickup, which is a little fatter and has a little more power.  My favourite is the Brown Sugar, which has a little more mid punch.
So many pickups, so little time

Thanks Phil. I think I'm going to try some mods to the rest of the electronics in my Tele to adjust the tone I'm getting and then, if that doesn't work, buy the Piledriver.
