What Caps ???
« on: May 29, 2007, 11:06:32 PM »
Hi all
Fitted "orange drop" caps to my RGT along with the Nailbombs and each tone control has a pull/push switch so I can swap between  .o22mf and .047mf caps. The orange drops are a film type cap and sound smooth and progressive overall but I can only get any really serious bottom end in the last 2mm or so of the pots sweep regardless of the cap selected.
Would ceramic or polyester or some other type cap give me more bottom end tone to play with ?
Cheers

It's more likely to be the sweep of the pot more than the caps
You may find that another tone pot rather than the cap will have a bigger difference to the sweep of the tone controls range.

Sorry if you have just fitted those pots- but might be worth experimenting with other pots

Thanks...I would have liked to have fitted some quality full size cts pots, but as I was adding two extra pots for independant  tone and volume control into the rather small controls cavity on the RGT there simply wasn't enough room for four of them in a row without taking a router to my guitar...and I really really didn't want to do that, so I opted for the push/pull switching type pots which are about half way in diameter between a mini pot and full size cts.

sounds like you have log taper tone pots - try linear taper for a more even response.
