Help a lefty find a new guitar!!
« on: February 15, 2007, 06:06:24 PM »
I am about to get some money from an insurance company because I got into a car accident with a drunk driver. So now I am in the market for a new guitar, but I can't just go out and play them like normal people. I have been looking at Les Paul Studios and Standards 60's slim neck, and carvin ct6m's. I play a little bit everything, but i need some thing with a fast neck because I play a lot of lead jazz and rock stuff. Out of those 3 which would you choose, or if you have any other suggestions.

a fellow southpaw!!I am,too..I feel your pain..well, I have had my share of lefty axes...my fave is a les paul standard with a slim 60's neck...plays smoother than anything I have ever had- small but noticeable difference between the 60s and 50s neck-50s fill up my palm more...nice as well-I ahve both and I dig both-I recently got a Jackson with a compound radius neck, which is slim between 1-12 frets and it gets wider as it approaches the upper register-sweet for shredding leads...very unique neck-also the Gibson 335...$$, but I always see some each month on the bay
-I bought my jackson from southpaw guitars in Texas..nice guys, but $$$$$

thanx for the advice guys. I have been looking at this Thin Lizzy concert on VH1 for the past week and really want an LP after that. I think I am going to spend  the extra money and get the 60's slim neck. I played a Epiphone Les Paul Standard and the neck felt like shite so I will not be getting that. I would love to put a RY in the bridge. I have a NB int he bridge of my stat now, and I need something a little brighter.

I would strongly recommend going with an older Les Paul kie this:

I would even consider this guitar, if I had the money I would buy it - the necks are fantastic:

Indeed, that 96 Les Paul is bound to be better than the stuff coming from Gibson today.

But I would definetly go with the Feline above all else - At least you can speak directly to the guy that made it :P

wow, £1200+ for a '96 LP std - that seems a bit high (?).  I would expect to pay around £800 for a right-handed guitar like that.

my own LP std is a '90 and is an amazing guitar - best Les Paul I've played or owned.  the stock pickups however are complete cr@p - figure on new pickups.  plus point is that these early/mid 90s LPs 'play' very nicely indeed.

Another 8 years and mine will be considered vintage

Well Gibson makes lefties pay more. You can get a righty Studio for about $1000, but for a left handed one you would have to pay $1500. That Feline guitar looks like a very great guitar. And why is the quality so diffrent b/t newer and older LP's made a few years ago?
