the vtwin is KEY.  My buddy has one and uses it to drive the front end of a fender princeton, turned the chimy clean thing into a death metal machine, completely unexpected.  It was also hilarious when we used it to drive a 1957 (7 watt?, tweed covering, 8" speaker) fender champ... i never knew something so small could sound so evil...
my maxon OD 808 really DOES make poop sound good

this is as i feared. i knew that the GH50L wouldn't be as good at low volumes.
i LOVE the ENGL Fireball, but it's slightly too pricey.
my favourite sound is Matamp, i've been looking at the First Lady model, but the one thats the same price, without reverb and with higher gain. i've forgotten the model name though.

Considered a Tiny Terror? Maybe not modern enough for your tastes though but clips on www.soundclick.com/zeriton show it has no problem doing Dream Theater.

matter of fact i HAVE. i just didn't know if it had enough gain.
ITS SUPER PORTABLE!
oh, and do the Orange amps sound anything like Matamp????
those clips sound like it has great tone! it's only 300 new as well, and i think my local guitar ACTUALLY has something in stock that i'm interested in!

Matamp created orange as far as i know, and used to own them - I havent tried any Matamps other than my minimat, but it does have a similar 'vibe' going on to some of the oranges i've played, although the sound ain't the exact same obviously.
I think a tiny terror would suit you well from the clips i've been hearing floating around the place

heh i used to have a similar amp setup... pure overkill.. in a GREAT way 8)

i'm down to 2 axes and a GuitarPort.

BUT the new Randall MTS 20w combo looks tempting, or the mini Krank Revolution stack...

Nice setup indy :D

yeah, thanks for the info! i knew they had some connection, but i didn't know what...
they're very practical too..... small, not SUPER loud, therefore more accepted by my parents  :)  (they don't like me buying new stuff)
perhaps if i got a 2x12 and a very cheap 1x12, then i could just carry it from my bedroom to our rehearsal room..... awesome! i've heard some great mid gain tones from it, as well as a couple of high gain ones WITHOUT any boost, and it sounds great!
anyway, back to your gear...... that is versatility, especially for your bedroom setup! mines just 1 of 3 guitars i have in my room straight into a small behringer combo...... haha it looks weedy compared to that JCM!

I'm finding the Laney to be overkill at the minute.. not in a band any more (was when I first got it) and I very rarely get to have it loud enough for the tone to be really good. Really wanting a TT now but cant really justify it.. oh and I reckon it'll have enough gain, just read this about it on HC -

"Yep definatly. With the gain maxed it's all the gain you'd ever really need to use. People boosting it just want an easier tone to play on. There's no need to tighten it up since it's already a ludicrously tight amp and there's no need to boost it to get more saturation becuase... Well, it'd sorta ruin it IMO.

Corse, that's not too say it wouldn't work and it wouldn't sound good. I just don't think it needs a boost. People use clean boost to tighten up and get more saturation. Often enough they just need a better right hand"

i can justify it: i haven't got a valve amp and have never owned one. until last year and even further, when i came here and discovered tone, i didn't need one. and it's a lot less loud than most, so it'll be great for home and small gig use.
that review sounds good...... that's all i want to hear really! as long as it can do that, i'm sold. plus, it won't overpower the 2x12 cab that i'm getting in terms of size..... coz its TINY!

Well even at half power it'll still be fairly loud. Obviously not as bad as a 50w valve amp but still.
