Cheap Valve Poweramp?
« on: February 25, 2007, 06:26:24 PM »
Hey,
So ihave this valve preamp pedal that I am using with my ss Marshall adn I am wanting to eventualy replace this setup completely with Like a laney or Mesa but in the mean time I do enjoy fiddling with different setups and so I am wanting to find a cheap valve poweramp that can stay relatively clean at higher volumes. i mainly just want it to have alot of depth, presence and 'roar' to it. Im not sure what kind of valves or whatever, preferably el34 I suppose, but It just has to be inexpenxive. I would prob fair best with a kit but I havent a clue where to find one fitting my needs. Any help appreciated.
P.S. Wattage isnta n issue either so long as it is enoguh tp shere I can get resonably loud volumes w/ out too much break up of the tubes.

i just got a peavey classic 50/50 poweramp with EL84s for £200 (stereo, 50W each side, although you can run 100W mono). Very versatile amp - Stays clean right up high. I use it with my mesa v-twin, Can't be beaten for the money.
EDIT: Also for the presence and "roar" you want, there is resonance and presence controls for each channel.

I have an ADA T100s which is a 50W per side EL34 equipped power amp
This has been upgraded and tweaked by the guys at the ADAdepot (WWW.ADADEPOT.COM)

Here's a link to some specs:
http://www.adadepot.com/adagear/gearpages/poweramps/ADA-T100S.htm

It is the same as the one that Nuno Bettencourt was using on the Pornograffiti tour
Only takes up 2 rack units as well
Really nice but I kind of got stuck on the sound of my Marshall 9100 which has 5881/6L6 style valves, so it's not being used

I want £360 for it plus shipping

Link to picture of it:

Take a look at Fender Blues Deluxe reissue 40 watts, for less cash try Blues Junior tweed, 15 watts with Jensen C12N, the black Blues Jr is OK too but you might want to upgrade the speaker.

Lost in translation, in the U.S. we would call that "head", thought he was looking for the "combo".
