My first set from BKP.....
« on: March 14, 2007, 03:05:57 PM »
are the Paikillers. Got them today.....installed them....tried them out with my Diezel VH4 ........ HOLLY MOLY what a pickup!!!!!!!!! When Tim said they were weapons of mass destruction he wasn't lying......

Compared to the DiMarzio ToneZones (useless pieces of garbage) they have alot of highs that aren't harsh, mids are clear and the bass ISN*t a big blob of undefined mush. The output is insanely high yet the note definition is really good, this thing is EVIL!
I'm going to put the miracle man set in my other guitar, can't wait to hear the results!

hmmmmm....lets see.....tone...

Not too much bass "fast bass response" is quite an accurate description in my opinion since its not the kind of overwhelming, flabby shitee that the tonezones have....mids, yes sir....loads of that, palm muting sounds incredibly tight, it also quite agressive sounding in the high frequency range, but definetly not harsh.
Since we are talking about the tone zones, if you look at the tone chart for them on dimarzios homepage > bass-8.5, mids-8.5, treble 5!!!! 5!!!!! damn it!
no wonder it sounds like cr@p since there is hardly any highs going to the amp....

Anyone interested in buying 2 tonezones and two paf pros....they make nice paperweights.

Bare Knuckle all the way!!!!!!

Glad you're loving the Painkillers.

the tonezone is designed to fill out floating trem guitars with bass, it's not meant to be used in a dark sounding guitar. It has it's uses.

The Painkillers are great pickups I found them to be a little too sizzly and inheriently highendy like all BKPs.. I use a DiMarzio Super Distortion and Air Norton at the moment with great sucess.. but it's just what works with your gear at hand. I'd never use a ToneZone with a Les Paul and Boogie Recto but i'd use one with an Ash Strat and Laney GH50L..

Glad you found your tone, it's always a great feeling!

Well the thin is that the guitar I put the Painkillers in, is really bright (ash body, maple neck)....but still my opinion is that it doesn't give the amp enough highs to work with (the ToneZones I mean), because you can't amplify whats not there....the highs were just hollow sounding fizz not musical in any way.

The painkillers just plain deliver....if there is too much highs just turn the knob on the amp. with the tonezones I had to crank up the treble, and the result was just this aforementioned fizz, I just couldn't get a balanced tone with the DiMarzios, now the sound is way more controllable.
