1978 Telecaster Custom pups?
« on: April 02, 2007, 07:49:10 PM »
First post coming so hello to you all!!. Ive just bought a Telecaster custom ala 1978, all original apart from the bridge pick up, the problem is that it sounds out of phase and although the wiring is original i think the replacement pup (an old dimarzio i think) is conflicting with the Fender wide range humbucker, i know some pick ups need to be reversed when added but this one has a copper earthing plate underneath so its more than just swapping the hot and ground wire  , i would appreciate your comments on the bnpups and your advice on whether i can put one straight in to the tele and get the ballsy sound i'm after in the mid position  or would the pickups need adjustment to bring it in phase with the Fender wide range.....Hope you can help...Horlix.....the brown sugar sounds a real cracker!!

I had the exact same problem recently after living with it for the past 3 years (or more) - don't know how I survived without that Tele 'both on' tone.

Anyway, here's the solution...

A result!!!!!, changed over the hot and ground wires on the bridge pup and removed the jumper wire on the base plate of the pickup and re-earthed the bridge. A great result and now this has given the tele a new sound and it really rocks.....Thanks for the solution. Still in the market for a new bridge pup if anyone can help....
