Need a recommendation for a modern sounding bucker
« on: April 10, 2007, 11:39:05 PM »
I'm looking for a bridge HB that will sound good under heavy gain, in my alder, hard tail Strat.

I want to be able to cover from old school thrash to stuff like Opeth and Zakk Wylde. I really want to be able to pul off the pinch harmonics. My SD hybrid does this nice, but they just don't have that edge to them that I've gotten when playing with EMGs (which I dont like otherwise to much.)

Anyway, I was thinking Warpig or Nailbomb. e

I'm particularly fond of Jerry Cantrell's tone on AIC last album. I know he used a JB and Gibson pups though.

Anyway, thanks for the input

nah, sorry- thus the question mark. i've been on these boards for a while and i'm just going by what others have said. i know the nailbomb and the miracle man are the best for pinch harmonics. As for which one of those two is right for you, why not head over to the players section and find some clips on the two.

I hear the holy diver has AIC all over it.

I havent tried that.

The miracle man was designed for harmonics, inspired by zakks style. Superb thrash pickup.

I reckon a good bet for opeth would be the nailbomb. Open and articualte for more intricate chords, and well able to do leads. I'm basing that on (many) clips.

A warpig would keep you happy, but I think you could get closer to the tones you want within the BK range. Its overkill in heaviness for you. Though if youre OK with EMG gain levels, its about the same. But WAY bigger, fatter, less compressed, more organic, and leads are much more liquid. Plenty tight, but again, there are better BKs for that.
