String Guage for C Standard?

I know there wa sa rather large topic somewhere in this forum about string guages but im a little bit too lazy too search through it to find an appropriate answer. So, what guage strings do you guys recommend for this tuning, that is, 4 whole tones down form standard on each string.

I find 12s are about right - I'm used to 11s in standard tuning.

12's for sure.  But 12-56's, not 52's... 52's are a bit sloppy.

Whatever gauge you're happy with, also depends upon the scale length IMO (F or G). FWIW, for C try a set of EB "Skinny Top Heavy Bottom" 10-52.

i use those for drop C and i find them too loose...

I use 13-56 on my C Standard SG, that being said on a 25.5 12-54 should probably be ok.

String guage is a matter of personal taste in feel and sound, so, what strings are you used to and in what tunings now?

As a general rule packs are ballanced to keep quite even tension on all the strings, and as another rule if you change guage by '001', say, 9 to 10, then thats an equivelent tension change to one semitone. So 10s in Eb are about the same tension as 9s in E, if the same brand

Well, in a 24,75 scale, you will have a lot of trouble. ahahahah start with 013. and stop when you feel it TIGHT.

but if you have a 25,5 scale, then 0.13
if you have a 25,75 013 too.

Yeh thats what ive been using for C#. And there about right for that but for C would 56's realy be big enough? What about for 'B'? And BTW im playing a 24.75" guitar.

I don't think so, my guitar in C (a 25.5 scale Parker Fly Mojo) has 13-56 on it, the low C is quite floppy at that. But I've never got round to filing out the machine head to accomodate a thicker string.

I reckon I'd be happy at 13-60.

Well I play 11-60 in C#, and I find this also works for C. If you play 10-52 in C# you may find it tight, but you may find the tonal benfits of a tighter string make you stick with it.

I get that by mixing the first five strings of an 11-53 ghs set with the 60 from a zakk wylde set. GHS's are a little slacker for the same guage because they're round-cored, not hex-cored, so the higher guage may not be so tight.

I'd say go all out and get a fat-ass set of .13's.  8)
