Hey, again thanks for the comments, thing is im based in Northern Ireland and to be honest i have no idea about modding an amp, i have already spoken to the most well known and reputable amp repairer in my area and he didnt think he would be able to modify the amp for me.

Bainzy, i am aware you have carried out alot of mods on your own 1959slp reissue, and to be honest i love the tone on some of the clips you posted on here a while back. Do you think getting another amp would be the way forward?

I'm not sure really - I guess it depends how much you're prepared to spend and how much work you're prepared to do. Modding a 1959slp isn't that hard, you can get the people over on the Metroamp forum to give you a run through of what to do, and if you have a good idea of what you want to do you shouldn't run into any problems. For about £200-300 of parts and a bit of work you can get an amazing sounding 1959slp, so if you snagged a used one rather cheap it'd work out quite cost effective.

On the other hand, if you get an amp like a Splawn you'll have a great sound right out of the box - and although it only gives approximations of the classic Marshall sound, it'll be more versatile. The down side to that is that it will undoubtedly cost even more. If you're planning on spending under £500, you'd be really limiting yourself by going for vintage sounding 100 watters, but if you can get along with something like a DSL100 then you should be able to pick one of those up easily within your budget.
