Guitar Wall Hangers (NSF56K)
« on: April 18, 2007, 10:44:00 PM »
ISTR that somebody was asking about wall hangers suitable for an acoustic guitar.  Well, I went out and bought a Hercules GSP39-WB hanger, which turned out to be perfect for both electric and acoustic guitars.

So now I have four of the buggers, and very nice they are too.  They have auto-release arms, so when you rest the weight of the guitar on them the arms close in front of the neck and there's no chance of a guitar falling off the hanger.  When you want to take a guitar down, you lift it slightly and the arms spring back out of the way and away you go.  The hangers also swivel to accomodate different headstock shapes too.

Anyway, some pictures of them now they're up.

Aww, there's pretty:

Got mine from soundslive.co.uk who I've used several times in the past and found they have really good service.

One word of warning.  The screws and rawplugs that come with the hangers are ridiculously tiny, and so I used some longer, thicker screws and heavy duty rawplugs suitable for the plasterboard they're attached to.

They work the same.  Once.  Then they fall off the wall.

you just need to use bigger screws and better raw plugs, the first time i put mine up, it started coming away from the wall after a few days, a change of screws and raw plugs sorted it out though.

It's a fairly straight forward task though (just make sure it's gonna stay in the wall)

If I'm every tricked into buying a house by some woman then I'm gonna have to have me a wall of guitars just like that one. But with more guitars (8 so far in as many years of playing; I'm 25)

Awesome guitars, btw

If it's a cavity wall, you can use this type of fixing.  It flattens out behind the plasterboard and you can rest assured it won't pull out.  Even if you have a 12lb 1970s Les Paul.

I like the look of those Hercules hangers, thanks for the tip guys.

Unlucky mate

damn, I forgot I'd have to convince her, too.

Well, IF I ever get a house, theres no way in hell that would be my idea. I'm just not the nest building type. So its only fair that if shes made me buy a house, I make one room into a studio/guitar shrine.

If that doesnt fly, I'll have to have another woman.

My last girlfriend loved them actually. She also played a little bit.

The rest were indifferent, but I never lived with any. I suppose that changes things.

I wish those had been around when I was looking for wall hangers. I now have two of the standard guitar shop type hangers which require you to rotate the guitar as you lift it out, which makes it very easy to smack them against the wall. :(
Warpigs.

You can't get much more DIY challenged than me.  :D

You just mark and drill three holes the correct diameter, bung in a plug and screw it to the wall.

Just remember the old saying: "Measure twice, cut once".  ;)
