Possibly the dumbest question ever

I bought an SM57 and a mic stand. How the hell do you attach the mic clip to the stand? The hole on the clip is about twice as large as the screw thread on the stand  :( Is there a special adapter I need to buy?

The clip that came with the mic probably has the adaptor for the smaller screw already fitted - you just need to remove it to fit it on the larger screw.

If you look closely at the fitting on the bottom of the clip, you should see that it's a metal barrel screwed in, you just need to unscrew the barrel, so that the larger thread fits on the stand - there are indentations either side for unscrewing.

If you don't have a wide enough bladed screwdriver to unscrew it, get a knife from the cutlery drawer :)

Oh hang on, I just read your post & realised it's the other way round.  Sorry

Yes, there should be an adaptor & it should have come with your SM57 - it's basically a small barrel threaded on both sides - you screw it in to fit on a stand with the small screw & remove it to fit on a stand with the larger screw.

No idea if/how/where you buy it separately though...

Thanks, I looked for a similar thing in my local shop but I ended up just buying a universal mic clip that has big and small thread slots.
