Warpig question
« on: May 04, 2007, 09:47:05 PM »
Yes, my 4th thread in a row, im done... Im wondering why the BK warpig is meant for uber deth metal. I think that mybe the warpig was drastically inapropriatly named. The song Warpigs is practically clean (slightly dirty)... this is 1970, SG and Laney amp, with a rangemaster... Not trying to be a rebel and bash anything here but Iommi used PAFs and P-90s. Although, Im guessing the reason BKPs chose the name Warpigs is because of the downtuning right? Cus thats why Tony Iommi is so damn heavy, not his distortion. mmm this isn't meant to be taken as anything rude so please dont^. Any comments opinions... lets hear it.

When Tim names a pickup it's to give the user a sense of the vie of the pickup. He's not trying to copy specific sounds so much as to give an impression of the pickup.

The War Pig is more versatile than it gets credit for. It's great for super heave stuff, but it does other styles pretty well.

do you own one?

ever extensively played one?

through a real amp?

if any of these questions is answered with a no, then you dont know the warpig.
it is not inappropriately named, because it has that iommi sound. flip it through a bare bones laney, it IS the sound of Sabbath. wire it parallel, it can do blues rock without any problems. try a clean amp with it, you could possibly get away with some jazzy type of thing. it is what it is. what players use it for is an entirely different thing.

it is not "ment" to do uber downtuned death metal.. it is just one of the things it does well.

Because if there is one riff that is heavier than hell itself, it is the opening of warpigs.

Considering other pickup makers, do have a tendancy to market their pickups as "Tony Iommi in a box" it's an easy mistake to make.

As has been said Tims pickups give the 'vibe' but they are not the errr (looks for politically correct term) 'one trick pony' that other companys come up with.

Don't be hard on yourself :)

a warpig can do Warpigs, but you'd have to play with your amp + guitar controls to get there.

it is to catch the vibe, yes, but IMO it's best at death metal. for my DM songs, it absolutely slays. i can also do practically every other metal genre too. but unfortunately, mine isn't versatile and can never be due to the 2 conductor wiring. but Davey and Kilby are spot on, it's not a one trick pony.
