MM neck is certainly hotter (& not just by a little), but I don't think they are tonally the same.

I actually use my MM neck split much of the time & have never done a serious side-by-side comparison, so I'll have a serious play tonight & report back with a bit more detail :)

Well the Cold Sweat neck I have is 8.2k & the MM neck is a lot more than that - 13.6k IIRC (though I'll have to dig out the card to be sure).

As I said, I've never seriously sat down & A/B'd the two, but my impression is that the MM neck has a lot more grunt than the CS. YMMV etc...

OK, according to the warranty cards, my MM neck is 17.5k :!: :o & my CS neck 8.2k.

The baby had an early night & I got stuck in the office late, so haven't had a chance to A/B the two through my Mesa at proper volumes, but here are a few comments from playing through my VooduValve on headphones:

The MM has a LOT more output.  It also seems to have more bass & sound more "compressed" than the CS.
The CS seems brighter & more "open".
Both are good at neck leads, but you hardly even need to use a pick with the MM :) - it does that thick fluid legato neck lead noodling so well :D
But IMO the CS has a far superior clean sound - if neck cleans are important, then it's no contest - CS every time.

Hope this helps...

and how is the voodu valve??

It's a really useful home recording tool - you have pretty much any sound you want on tap with all the effects you're likely to need (the reverbs & delays are especially good) + speaker sim so you can record direct.

Almost all the stock factory presets are cr@p (far, far too much treble) - the "Alex Lifeson" & "Luke Warm" patches are the only ones I use without modification, however you can get some very nice sounds if you play around with it for long enough.  There are a lot of settings to change - particularly eq settings, so it takes a bit of time to get the sound you want, but it's all in there somewhere.  I don't think I've used a fraction of the VooduValve's capabilities.

I don't think it's tonally as good as a decent valve head & cab properly mic'd but it has its place in my setup & I'm glad I have it...

well i was thinking of getting one of them and a valve power amp of some kind and hooking into a cab.

My other choice is a bugera 6260 or a engl fireball if i can not spend my money for long enough
