Okay the problem, atm using an ibanez cab, stock speakers 12inch 100w x4

Using a peavey 6505+ head i can get to about 5-6 volume before i start going deaf (small room) and the stock speakers start to lose all definition, 2-3 is still damn loud but keeps abit more definition.

basically looking to upgrade to some lower wattage celestion speakers, i like the way the greenbacks change the tone on my line6 toneport so im thinking the real thing will be much better :-) looking at the 25w greenbacks but also wondering if i can match them with the vintage 30s 30w ? will be wired in stereo so its 1 of each speaker on each channel, in 8ohm.

Only thing that really concerns me is the head is rated at 120 watts, is there much chance of blowing the lower wattage speakers? if so is it just a case of trial and error on how much i can turn the volume up? rather not have the error part in there... as ever, ty for taking the time to read this.

For safety I would go with an X of 12H30 and V30. You could also match 12T75 and 12M25, which is common practise. Against the principle of same dB, I have also heard people using 12M25 and V30 and being very happy.

With a 100W rating it remains a risk of blowing the Greenbacks if you go to max on your 5150 (6 in a small room? Goodness!)

Another thing: Don't expect the speakers to solve it all. They will make a difference, but the cab itself, wood, construction, size, etc, will make a huge difference too. Don't think your Peavey cab with 4x12 Celestion will sound the same as e.g. a Bogner straight 4x12 with the same speakers.

Less relevant for close up recording but still very audible in real.

going upto 6 was just a little test to see what it would sound like lol, nice chug but didnt pick up single notes too well, could really hear and feel the speakers struggle i think its called "flab", will mainly be close up recording with some low level room ambience, but i dont plan on going too loud whilst recording.

my greenies sound incredible with my old 50 wat mArsh--flabby and frail when matched with my Boogie MK IV-why?/too many watts..I would not really consider using greenies with a high gain/wattage setup..you may ruin the speakers
